Note-Taking
Usage and Application: This strategy is positively correlated
with student learning, and helps students pay attention, encode new material both verbally and visually, and provides external storage of classroom material available for later study.
·Advantage: New material may be presented too swiftly in the classroom for students to process it. Note-taking helps students meaningfully process material during later study, especially when notes are comprehensive. Comprehensive note-taking includes main ideas, supporting details, students’ elaborations, and must be consistent with lesson objectives.
·Disadvantage: Correct note-taking is essential. Often the type and quality of students' notes can vary, producing different learning outcomes. Therefore, the effectiveness of note-taking depends on the type of notes taken.
